Music Therapy Program Works with Homeless Kids in Brooklyn Shelter

Our outreach programs make it possible for BKCM to expand its reach beyond Park Slope into neighborhoods all over Brooklyn.  This fall, our Music Therapy Program has expanded to Brownsville, to bring music therapy to the Flagstone Homeless Shelter. This program utilizes songwriting, improvisation, recording and drumming for at-risk and displaced middle school children currently living at the shelter.

The program is part of Mayor DiBlasio’s afterschool initiative for providing constructive, education and supportive after school programs for at-risk youth. The Flagstone Homeless Shelter is BKCM’s fourth partner site with CAMBA, which runs the overall program.  Al Hoberman, one of our new music therapists, is running the program and is off to a great start.
