Join us for the first installment in a new jazz series at BKCM – The New Thing: Divergent Paths in Jazz and Creative Improvised Music.
Hosted by the BKCM Jazz Program, this series invites performers to play and speak personally to contemporary forms of improvised musics, encompassing what many people refer to as the “avant-garde,” “free” music or “experimental” music. By bringing these musical forms to the forefront, the series aims to encourage a more robust and wide-reaching understanding of what “jazz” is and can be.
This first performance in the series will feature a quartet performing selections by each of its members:
- Dan Pierson (piano)
- Elijah J. Thomas (woodwinds and little instruments)
- Wen-Ting Wu (drums)
- Mike Harmon (bass)
After each performance, each musician will share their personal connection with the piece and take questions and comments from the audience.
Free with RSVP
