Congratulations to our oldest student Goldie Lasser Sohn who turned 104 on April 9th.
Goldie was born on April 9, 1912, and was the fifth of seven children born and raised in Newark, N.J., to Russian immigrants. At 14 years old, she and her family moved to Brooklyn. She took first place in a beauty contest, got married in 1941, worked in advertising and later served as a bookkeeper in the garment industry. She has one daughter, a grand-daughter, a great granddaughter, and two great-great grandchildren who reside in Iceland. Ms. Sohn, who lives with her daughter in Bay Ridge, comes to the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music weekly for music classes provided by our Music Therapy Program to members of the Shore Hill Neighborhood Center for older adults.
