Set I – Earth Tongues

“Earth Tongues doesn’t just improvise in the standard terms…this slow-moving beast of a combo goes heavier and deeper than surface aesthetics.” – Peter Margasak

Carlo Costa – percussion
Joe Moffett – trumpet
Dan Peck – tuba

An ensemble dedicated to exploring the scope and scale of experimental improvised music, Earth Tongues approaches each performance as a chance to build new, engaging work that questions our relationship to music and our understanding of sound. Consisting of Carlo Costa on percussion, Joe Moffett on trumpet, and Dan Peck on tuba, the trio creates immersive pieces that explore dynamic and temporal extremes. The ensemble has performed at various venues including Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, and Rhizome in Washington DC and released its third studio album, Atem, on Neither/Nor Records in 2019.

Set II – Pretty Monsters

The four-piece Pretty Monsters drifts and lurches between doomy songs, noisy improv, and eerie experimental chamber music.

Katherine Young – bassoon+electronics
Erica Dicker – violin
Owen Stewart-Robertson – electric guitar
Mike Pride – drums and percussion
