Brooklyn Conservatory of Music’s Midsummer Nights Concert Series is back! Join old and new friends of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music to enjoy outdoor concerts with Brooklyn-based musicians that will surprise and delight. Adults and kids are welcome!
This event is free to attend. The concert will feature BKCM music therapist and performer Stephanie Schecter.
Location: BKCM Front Garden (58 7th Ave, Brooklyn)

Stephanie Schecter
Stephanie Schecter, known onstage as “Ellajay,” is an indie singer/songwriter based in Brooklyn, NY. She draws listeners in with ear-candy hooks, raw and earnest lyrics, and a charmingly graceful voice packaged in a fun alt-pop vibe. Originally hailing from small-town Georgia, Ellajay’s sound is unique in her genre bending and blending of alternative pop, embedded with folk and rock roots, sprinkled with a hint of R&B. Ellajay has been writing songs and performing all her life, but finally began releasing music in 2020.

Josh Sinton’s “4 freedoms” is a meditation on and exploration of the models of democracy and compassionate anarchy manifested in the musics of Duke Ellington, Anthony Braxton, Andrew Hill, Julius Hemphill and Henry Threadgill. All of these African-American artists created personal and startling musical counterpoint and in doing so, imagined a world where everyone’s unique voice can be sounded together in a unique harmony. Sinton’s piece is an expression of his respect, admiration and love for the work of these great artists.
The performance will feature composer Josh Sinton on woodwinds, Jonathan Finlayson on trumpet, Christopher Hoffman on cello and Tom Rainey on drums.

The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music hosts a Halloween event for the whole family! Join us outside of our building for a spine-chilling performance from a BKCM faculty string quartet, a haunted musical garden and, of course, candy!
The string quartet will feature Ali Kang and Jennifer Axelson (violins), Brian Thompson (viola) and Jenna Girone-Virgilio (cello).

Shape Shifting: CMTE Virtual Guitar Workshop

Music therapists are invited to this virtual CMTE workshop presented by licensed creative arts therapist and certified Nordoff-Robbins music therapist David Herman (MA, LCAT, NRMT). Participants will be guided through one-finger, two-finger, and three-finger improvisation exercises and will be led as a group in modal playing using the ‘Shape Shifting’ technique.

PhiloSonia Concert

From October to May, 2021, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music will be hosting four programs presented by PhiloSonia. PhiloSonia is an innovative chamber music series designed to create a personal connection between audience members and classical music.
ReCONNECT II: Together will feature performances by Stani Dimitrova (violin), Ani Kalayjian (cello) and Philip Fisher (piano). The evening will feature works by J. Haydn, William Grant Still, Gayane Chebotaryan, Jennifer Higdon, Reena Esmail and Amy Beach. The evening is being presented in collaboration with LYRICA Chamber Music.
