Our Music Therapy Program at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music has a mission to encourage autistic and non-neurotypical performers to perform in neurotypical spaces, spreading awareness of the “-ability” in disability and to provide inclusive concert opportunities for our music therapy clients, families and partners. As a whole, the Conservatory is an inclusive environment where people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds are able to participate in making music through our four divisions: Music Therapy, Community Music School, Suzuki and Music Partners. We are thrilled to host Dane Brandt-Lubart’s one-man show in our newly restored and outfitted concert hall!

My Life On The Spectrum is the touching and inspiring tale of Dane Brandt-Lubart and his journey through life as someone with autism. Told through musical performance and informative monologue, this concert event raises awareness about the day-to-day lives of those living with autism while shining a light on their courageous fight for acceptance and their struggle against marginalization and social isolation. Featuring songs you know from your favorite acts such as Lady Gaga, Michael Buble, and Monty Python, Dane will take you on a journey into his world which will have you learning, laughing, and singing–and will foster within you a deeper understanding of what it means to have autism and intellectual disabilities.

“My Life on the Spectrum” has been performed all over New York City in schools, before youth groups and community organizations, for fundraising galas, at the famed Katherine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center and at the renowned NYC theatre district cabaret Don’t Tell Mama. Dane and the band were also featured performers at the 2018 NYC Disability Pride Parade that boasted 10,000 marchers. Four-time Emmy Award winning director Michael Drucker recently made a documentary about Dane and the show called “Inside My Life on the Spectrum” and directed a gorgeous video of the full 33 minute production that was taped before a live audience.
