Exploring the Metropolis: Music by Kate Gentile

Sunday June 16 @ 8:00 pm

Join Kate Gentile and her bandmates for a performance of works composed by Kate during the EtM Con Edison Composer Residencies. The EtM Con Edison Composer Residencies serve three constituencies: (1) the composers who receive long-term, no-cost workspace; (2) the host cultural facilities that maximize underutilized space and also present the artists in a free public program; (3) the community which is invited to at least one free program – a master class, a concert, a lecture/demonstration or a workshop. EtM is the resource on rehearsal and performance space issues and solutions for New York’s performing arts communities. Their vision is that every artist in New York City has the space they need to work and every community has access to this work.

Brooklyn-based drummer and composer KATE GENTILE is originally from Buffalo, NY. Her music explores unconventional and often complex harmonic and rhythmic material, as well as the intersections of acoustic and electronic sounds, while equally valuing improvisation and composition. Gentile has been involved in many forward-thinking projects including Matt Mitchell’s sextet Phalanx Ambassadors; Snark Horse, Mitchell and Gentile’s collaborative-led rotating cast ensemble; Dustin Carlson’s Air Ceremony, and Will Mason’s noise-rock/classical crossover band Happy Place. Gentile has also worked with Michaël Attias, Tim Berne, Anthony Braxton, Marty Ehrlich, Michael Formanek, Helado Negro, Matana Roberts, Chris Speed, Anna Webber, and John Zorn.
