5th Annual World Refugee Day Music Festival

On Sunday, June 20 at 2pm, BKCM will host the 5th Annual World Refugee Day Music Festival (Lincoln Pl at Seventh Ave). This free outdoor community celebration will feature musical acts from around the world, along with theater, dance, visual art and more. The event will be followed by a 5pm performance of Judeo-Arab hits from the greatest divas of North Africa – including Line Monty, Zohra Elfassia, Hbiba Msika, Salim Halali and more – directed by Laura Elkeslassy (voice) and Ira Khonen Temple (keyboard and accordion). Other groups performing include the People’s Theater Project, New Women New Yorkers Storytellers, musician Jei Fabiane, Sesame Flyers and more.
These events are in partnership with refugee-focused organizations Catholic Charities of NY, CAMBA, International Rescue Committee (IRC), HIAS, Accompany Capital, Welcome Home Jersey City, Ruth’s Refuge, the Libertas Center for Human Rights, New Women New Yorkers and the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe.

A Dialogue on Current and Future Music Therapy Practice in NYS
February 22, 2021 – 6:30pm
This workshop for creative arts therapists will provide a detailed overview of the process of applying for the LCAT, requirements to maintain current registration, temporary changes in regulatory requirements in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and an exploration of the future of music therapy practice in NYS. Information on upcoming virtual advocacy events will be shared. The same content will be offered on both February 22 and 27 – pick the one that’s best for you! Each workshop will concentrate on Limited Permits in the first half and LCAT responsibilities and requirements in the second half; you can attend a portion or the entire workshop. Your time attending will determine how many CMTE credits you can claim.
