Restorative Music Workshops: Singing Circle with Kate Richards

Thursday October 1, 2015 @ 7:00 pm

Sing your way into spontaneous music compositions using your inherent musicality and internal music library. In this Singing Circle, we will create an evolving musical soundscape by building beautiful harmonies and interlocking rhythmic grooves in an open, supportive environment. We will start with what we know and then listen to where the music wants to go: unlocking creativity, listening for what comes next, saying “Yes” to what is happening in the moment, considering our options, collaborating with our partners, building a community that is in tune and in sync. The sheer joy of making music with others in this way can have a powerful impact on us — body, mind & spirit.

Kate Richards Geller (MA, MT-BC, LCAT) is a music therapist and vocal improviser who is well-known for keen listening, creating safety in a group, facilitating freedom within structure, and supporting personal expression. The focus of her work involves interactive singing as a bridge to self-expression, communication, and collaboration. Her esteemed teachers include Diane Austin, Lisa Sokolov, Renée Manning, Rhiannon and Silvia Nakkach. She is living in Los Angeles now after traveling across the US and in Europe creating singing circles.
