First Friday Faculty Series: Sean Moran with Sun Tiger

Friday April 6, 2018 @ 7:00 pm

sun tiger

SUN TIGER plays the exuberant and unpredictable music of guitarist Sean Moran. Forays into trio improvisation are tempered with the imprint of jazz, 20th century rock guitar heroes, tuneful folk – like melodies, metallic bits, and contemporary classical new music.

Sean Moran is a guitarist and composer based in Brooklyn, NY. He has performed at New York venues such as Lincoln Center, Celebrate Brooklyn, The Stone, BAM, Roulette, and Symphony Space as well as playing in Japan, Europe, and throughout the U.S. His music has been featured on WNYC’s “Soundcheck” and “Spinning on Air”, as well as at Merkin Concert Hall. He plays in the chamber quartet “The Four Bags”, the avant metal trio “Bassoon”, leads his own group “Small Elephant”, and performs with many other NYC based groups.

Over his nearly four-decade career, Hank Roberts has forged a compelling original voice as a composer and a cellist, encompassing abstract improvisation, jazz influences, soulful folk melodies, intricate new-music compositions and vigorous rock songs. He is currently a member of Bill Frisell’s 858 Quartet and Big Sur Quintet and has recorded 10 albums on the Winter & Winter label

Vinnie Sperrazza is a Brooklyn-based jazz drummer. His first album as a bandleader and composer, Apocryphal, was released by Loyal Label on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. He’s played lots and lots of good music with many amazing musicians, but he feels really self-conscious about dropping names and all that so he’s just not going to do it, save mentioning the late great Mr. James Williams, pianist, with whom Vin played many memorable concerts.
