3rd Annual World Refugee Day Festival

Saturday June 22 @ 3:00 pm

In celebration of World Refugee Day, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (BKCM) partners with Spaceworks and refugee-focused organizations Catholic Charities of NY, CAMBA, the Business Center for New Americans, The Children’s Museum of Art, International Rescue Committee (IRC), New Women New Yorkers, Tanabel, and the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs to host the 3rd annual World Refugee Day Festival, a community celebration of music, art and cuisine in Park Slope. The June 22 event is FREE and open to the public.

On two main stages and throughout BKCM’s five-story building and garden, the festival will kick off at 3 pm with fun for all ages with live music, theater, and storytelling continuing throughout the afternoon along with face-painting, crafts, food and more.

Dozens of musicians from Syria, Croatia, Egypt, Brazil, Cuba, and all over the world—many of whom are revitalizing their musical lives after resettling here in the U.S.—will perform both traditional and contemporary music. Non-musical acts include storyteller graduates from The Moth Community Program and an interactive performance by the People’s Theatre Project, which focuses on amplifying voices in NYC immigrant communities through performance. The afternoon will end with a performance by GRAMMY Award-winning pianist Arturo O’Farrill and his amazing band.
