Children and adults who show an interest in learning to play an instrument, but who need extra support, can benefit from studying with a music educator with a degree in music therapy. We offer individual adaptive music instruction on piano, guitar and voice. Adaptive lessons differ from traditional music therapy in that the goal is skill based music learning rather than non-musical, clinical goals. Instructors will focus on foundational skills and blocks to learning as well as utilizing traditional methods of instrumental instruction. Materials used are adapted for the learning needs of the client.

Social Sound Bytes

For students enrolled in adaptive lessons or individual music therapy, our remote Social Sound Bytes classes provide an opportunity to practice musical skills in a group context. Groups are led by music educators with degrees in music therapy and focus on enhancing the musical skills and experiences gained through our regular program. Social Sound Bytes classes are open to all students currently enrolled in individual music therapy or adaptive lessons.

COVID-19 Update

For the month of September, BCKM will operate on an entirely remote basis. We will make our reopening decisions based on best safety and clinical practices for our students and families, which may mean a more conservative approach to going back to in person sessions. We have built a rich and sustainable virtual package for short and long term decision making. Please stay tuned for updates as we proceed through the school year. BKCM’s COVID-19 task force has been working diligently to develop building reopening plans.
