Come jam with us and learn to improvise and play by ear!
Students jam on jazz standards, blues and more in a wide range of styles such as swing, funk, bebop and Afro-Cuban. Students who are new to jazz learn the building blocks of improvising over simple chord changes and grooves. Experienced students learn advanced jazz theory, harmony and rhythm and are encouraged to compose, arrange and rehearse their own music in class.
This camp is for students of all levels who have a minimum of one year’s experience on their instrument and are currently enrolled in private lessons or a school band program. No prior experience in jazz is necessary—only a willingness to be creative, have fun and work as a team. Our expert faculty perform internationally as jazz artists and educators. Faculty and students collaborate an play together, carrying on the jazz tradition of the mentorship model.
Thanks to our generous donor, The Amy Winehouse Foundation, this program is open to all students and need-based scholarships are available.
