Make your summer vibrant with this full-day drop-off camp for piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar and bass students. Each student in this camp receives daily workshops, semi-private lessons and performs in an ensemble.

In the afternoons, students choose from a variety of fun electives, including Bluegrass, Composition or Groove Lab. Students who attend more than one week may choose a different elective for each week! Electives are taught by expert guest teachers.

This camp is open to all students with two to three years of experience on their instruments. Suzuki students who apply should be playing in late Book 1 or higher. Students who are in the CMS program can speak with their teacher to determine if they are ready. Students outside of the BKCM Suzuki and CMS programs are welcome! In the application, students must submit an audio or video recording of their playing so that they can be placed in the appropriate level.

Afternoon Session

Choose One:
Bluegrass: Taught by expert bluegrass musicians in a fun, supportive, jam-style approach, this elective will help students experience the joys of leading, improvising and accompanying traditional folk songs and old-time music.
Composition: What song will you write this summer? For the aspiring songwriter and film composer, this elective will ignite students’ imaginations and explore how music is put together. Each student’s composition will be performed live by a professional ensemble at the end of the camp. Students learn online notation software so they can continue to compose all summer long. No prior experience in composition is necessary, however we recommend that students have one to two years experience in private lessons.
Groove Lab: Take an interactive deep dive into the study of beats, rhythms and grooves from different cultures around the world. Students will have the opportunity to create, collaborate and experiment with rhythm production using tablets, drum machines, beat-making, drums and body percussion.
