Description

Vocalists, string, guitar and mandolin players are invited to experience the historic American music of bluegrass. Taught by expert bluegrass musicians in a fun jam-style approach, students experience the joys of leading, improvising and accompanying traditional folk songs and old-time music. Students who join this class should be familiar with G, C and D major scales. Each semester culminates in a jam-style performance at BKCM and local bluegrass music festivals.

Auditions
Please contact the Community Music School administrative team at cmsadmin@bkcm.org to schedule an audition. No experience in Bluegrass is required. Must be familiar with G, C and D major scales.

About Steve Burke
Steve Burke is a bassist, mandolinist, electronic music composer, and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. In 2008, Burke attended Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied bass performance with Fernando Huergo, Chris Joye, and Bruce Gertz. On mandolin, he leads the bluegrass and old-time group The One and Onlies. As a sideman, he has appeared with Henley Douglas Jr (Boston Horns), and Eric Reardon (Sarah and the Wild Versatile), ALMA, MC Kabir, The National Reserve, and many others. He has built a reputation as a sideman on the Boston and New York music scenes, playing over 200 shows each year across genres ranging from jazz, funk, and reggae to folk, country, and blues.
