Prerequisite: 2 Years of Private Lessons on your instrument, familiarity with music notation

For the aspiring songwriter and film composer, this camp will ignite students’ imagination and explore how music is put together. Using basic musical elements of pitch, rhythm and melody, students draw inspiration from a variety of moods, emotion and self-expression to create original compositions. Each student’s composition will be performed live by a professional ensemble at the end of the camp. Outside of class, students interact with online notation software Flat.IO, gaining familiarity with these tools so they can continue to experiment and compose all summer long. No prior experience in composition is necessary for this class, but we recommend that students have one to two years experience in private lessons and a familiarity with reading music notation.
