This class will explore the art of beat making, including how to use drum machines, create samples and program beats from scratch. Students will build a sampler in class and also learn how mixing, scratching, samples and drum beats come together for a DJ dance set. In addition to an exploration of modern electronic music techniques and innovators, this class offers perspective on beat making and DJ pioneers. Students are required to bring a working laptop, a USB stick and headphones to each class.

BKCM offers a wide range of ensembles for students of all ages, levels and experience. Students are motivated to practice repertoire outside of class and encouraged by their peers to take on new challenges. Taught by experts in the field, our ensembles include performance opportunities and a chance to connect with a community of other instrumentalists who are interested in developing their artistry.
