Project Description
Schedule:
- Tuesdays at 7:00pm
Coaches:
- Peter Apfelbaum
Adult students who are completely new to Jazz or want to refresh their understanding of the basics of jazz are welcome to join this intro class. Over the course of 15 weeks students will explore the basic modes for improvising, gaining familiarity with the blues form, and develop an understanding of how to improvise over chord changes. Students will also explore jazz swing feel and familiarity with jazz phrasing. Understanding the roles of the instruments in a jazz ensemble, and exploring how your instrument part functions in a group, students will explore beginner jazz repertoire in a class format.
This class is ideal for students who have experience on their instrument and can play at an intermediate level. Students who take this intro level class may have the opportunity to join our adult jazz ensembles in the Spring semester, depending on instrument and availability in the class. If you have any questions about whether the Jazz Instrumental Lab Intro Level is the right fit for you, please contact the community music school administrative team at cmsadmin@bkcm.org.
