Originally from New Jersey, Charlie began learning the piano at age 7, later moving on to alto saxophone, and finally taking up his primary instrument, the guitar. After playing jazz and rock all through high school, Charlie attended Berklee College of Music where he studied with noted guitarists, Jon Damian, Dave Tronzo, and Mick Goodrick. Charlie graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012 with a Bachelor of Music in Performance and Professional Music.
During college and after Charlie has had many opportunities to perform with various bands, including producing two full length EP’s, a 12 show cross-country tour, as well as a tour to Austin, Texas to play during the 2012 SXSW Music festival. Since graduating Charlie has been teaching weekly private lessons on guitar, piano, ukulele and bass.
Charlie’s teaching style uses aspects of method books that he has found useful over the years, but incorporates these techniques in a fun and applicable way. Playing and understanding real songs by masterful artists is the foundation of this method. Charlie has helped prepare about 20 students for recital performances in the past three years, often incorporating arranging, and recording/mixing into the final stages of preparation. To get students engaged and excited through the whole process of learning a song from start to finish is the goal of his lessons, no matter the level of the student.
