FUMBL (Formerly Unemployed Musicians Baseball League) is a New York City–based group of renowned professional musicians who sunlight as a semi-competitive, semi-chaotic baseball team. Formed in the summer of 2020 during the height of the pandemic, UMBL (the original name) began as a casual, catcher-less, strikeout-free way for musicians to reconnect with the sport of their youth—and with each other. While all members are active performers in NYC’s vibrant music scene, many first met not on a gig, but on the baseball field.
What began as a lighthearted pastime has evolved into a close-knit community blending athletic camaraderie with creative collaboration. This past March, FUMBL presented a sold-out musical revue at the Jalopy Theatre, featuring baseball-themed songs, comedy skits, and live-scored silent films. Equal parts concert and clubhouse, the team continues to bring their playful spirit to both stages and sandlots across the city. It’s a rare and striking mix—professional musicians coming together not just to perform, but to play, compete, and build something larger than either music or sports alone.
