Fellowships

The Jazz Leaders Fellowship

Now in its fourth year, the Jazz Leaders Fellowship provides Black women and Black non-binary jazz musicians with resources to further develop their craft and pursue projects that advance their careers.

The Mission of the Jazz Leaders Fellowship is to

  • support emerging jazz musicians in creating original music.
  • support the careers of Black women and Black non-binary jazz musicians to help increase their representation in the field
  • broaden the presence of BKCM in the jazz community
  • expose BKCM’s students to diverse emerging teachers

The program was conceived by BKCM Board member Daniel DiPietro and developed by the Jazz Leaders Fellowship Committee, led by musician and educator Fay Victor (learn more about the committee below).

The fellowship is made possible by the generous support of DiPietro and his wife Alexis and includes a $12,500 award. Additionally, BKCM will empower and aid recipients in their paths toward music leadership through teaching and performance opportunities, access to BKCM’s rehearsal spaces, participation in BKCM’s Jazz Program advisory panel and more.

Fieldwork in Music Therapy

Music Therapy Internship and Fieldwork / Practicum Opportunities at BKCM!

BKCM has been a training ground for students enrolled in AMTA approved, university programs in music therapy at both the bachelor’s and master’s degree levels. We only accept students enrolled as music therapy majors, whether at the undergraduate or master’s degree level. We have partnered with NYU, Berklee College of Music, Montclair University, Molloy College, SUNY New Paltz, Slippery Rock University and Howard University.

Our internships run from September through June. We do not accept interns for spring only or summer placements and an intern must commit to the entire school year. We are currently accepting internship applications for the 2024-2025 school year. The application deadline is March 15, 2024. Click here to download the application.

Fieldwork, pre-internship and practicum placements are decided on a case by case basis depending on supervisor and placement availability. Fieldwork applications will be accepted from April 1 through August 1, 2024. If you are interested in being considered, please apply here.
