Everybody Can Play!
A truly inclusive acoustic jam led by BKCM music therapist Lloyd Miller, at 96 Garfield Street from 5-6 PM on May 9.
Who can come?
Everyone… but it’s important to note that this is a jam session designed especially for:
- Neurodivergent children and adults
- People of any age who have never been to a jam
- People who want to play music with others — but are anxious about it
- People who feel they’re not yet good enough to play with other musicians
- Beginner and intermediate players of guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and other string instruments
- YOU! Everyone of all abilities is welcome but we will be taking great care to make sure everyone feels safe and included. This probably isn’t the jam for you if you want to shred bluegrass tunes at high speed or show off your jazz chops. But we definitely would appreciate the assistance and guidance of more experienced musicians if you’re willing to volunteer your time!
What will we be playing?
We will have a predetermined setlist of about 10 simple songs that work on acoustic instruments like guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and banjo. We will have basic chord and lyric sheets available in paper and PDF formats.
Will instruments be provided?
We will have a couple of acoustic guitars and a ukulele that can be shared but you should definitely bring your own stringed instrument if you have one. We will also have some small percussion instruments.
Will there be singing?
Yes! All the songs we’ll be doing are perfect for singing along. We hope to hear as many voices as possible.
