Yvonne Rogers is a pianist and composer from Penobscot, Maine, now based in Brooklyn, New York. Described as a “Fresh, new voice on piano,” (Paul Acquaro, The Free Jazz Collective), she is in demand as a side-person and bandleader in NYC and beyond. She has performed her work at venues around the world including the Jazz Gallery (NYC), the Birdseye Jazz Club (CH), the Kennedy Center (DC), and the Deer Isle Jazz Festival (ME). Yvonne is a recipient of the 2024 Next Jazz Legacy Award, a grant founded by Terri Lyne Carrington and facilitated by New Music USA providing funding and mentorship to outstanding women in jazz. She is mentored by vocalist Sara Serpa and cellist Tomeka Reid. She was selected for Focusyear Basel in 2021-2022, a residency during which she performed with Kris Davis, Linda May Han Oh, Lionel Loueke, Miguel Zenon, and many more. She received the 2024 Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award from ASCAP for her piece “Seeds Suite,” appearing on her 2023 album “Seeds.” Yvonne’s work is rooted in improvisation and play, and she carries this sense of creative abandon with her wherever she is in the world.
