Description
Multiple guitars create a unique sonic experience when they combine harmony, melody and rhythm. This ensemble will improve students’ sight-reading, chord knowledge and technique. Students read standard notation and explore a diverse repertoire including classical, pop and jazz selections. Guitarists who are ready for a group experience learn valuable ensemble skills such as blend, expression, soloing and accompaniment.

How to Apply
Students joining a guitar ensemble should have some experience reading music at an intermediate level and know basic chords and scales. Students should have some experience reading music in open-position in a few different keys as well as familiarity with reading basic rhythms in a steady tempo. To determine if you are ready to join the guitar ensemble, please contact our community music school administrative team at cmsadmin@bkcm.org to set up a placement audition.
Returning students:
Students who have previously enrolled in BKCM private lessons or ensembles may receive a nomination from their teacher or the administration to bypass the audition.
First-time Guitar Ensemble Applicants:
- Record a short audition video on a smart phone (or similar device). Include two major scales that you know well at a steady tempo and a song that you can play well, no longer than one minute.
- Upload the video via the following Application Form to complete your application.
