Description
In this beginner guitar class, students learn how to strum chords, pick melodies and play simple songs on the guitar. The small class size ensures that each child receives some individual attention each week while learning how to care for the instrument and develop skills on the acoustic guitar. Students interact with both standard notation and guitar tablature to learn beginner guitar chords and melodies in a variety of genres and styles. At the end of each semester, students perform in a group recital, building confidence and performance skills.
*Students are required to purchase an appropriately sized acoustic guitar for this class. BKCM provides a starter guitar for students to use for their first two classes. For suggestions on where to affordably purchase a guitar, see our Instrument Guide.

Registration Process (Annual Class)
Guitar Friends is an annual class that only registers in the fall! Please check back in June to register for 2026-27.

Financial Aid
At this time in the school year, BKCM has minimal financial aid left for spring 2026 Community Music School classes and lessons. Financial Aid will be available for Fall 2026 with registration opening on June 17th. To learn more about Financial Aid and apply, click here.
