Let’s Jam And Improvise! All Instruments are welcome!

The core values of the BKCM Jazz program are creativity, improvisation and listening. Students level up their playing quickly, performing in small combos that are arranged by age and experience. Students attend masterclasses, semi-private lessons, music theory and performance class each day. Students who have not played jazz before will find common ground with others who are exploring jazz and improvisation for the first time and build tools for improvising over simple chord changes and grooves. Advanced students work with other students at their level and dive into challenging repertoire from the Jazz canon and beyond.

This camp is all about playing. Students take an active role in creating arrangements and developing their skills as leaders in the ensemble. Students advance their skills in just one week of camp, playing several hours each day and working with our incredible jazz faculty in practice and performance.

Our world-class faculty all perform internationally as jazz artists and educators. Faculty and students join together to jam on jazz standards, blues and more in a wide range of styles such as swing, funk, bebop, Afro-Cuban and more. If you have any questions about whether the jazz camp is right for you, please reach out to jazz@bkcm.org
