Description

For the budding composer, this class will ignite students’ imaginations while exploring concepts such as theme, variation, song-form and orchestration. Students interact with online notation software to edit their own scores, and are encouraged to experiment and compose at home. No prior experience in composition is necessary for this class, but it is recommended that students have two years of private lessons or experience playing an instrument prior to taking this course.

Writing for a Live Ensemble

Each semester concludes with a final performance of students’ original compositions played by a live professional ensemble. This unique opportunity to interact and collaborate with professional musicians gives students a real-world experience as composers.

Which Level Composition Club Should I Join?

Students who have taken Composition Club 1 may continue in level 1 or advance to Level 2 with the recommendation from your current teacher.
