About Family Day
Family Day is back with a joyful mix of music and imagination. Celebrate iconic Swedish children’s book character Pippi Longstocking with beloved NYC klezmer band The Klezmatics’ accordion-driven sound. Pippi also comes to life through puppet performances by the Parks PuppetMobile and a musical read along by writer Jacqueline Woodson and Brownstone Brass presented by The Center for Fiction and Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, with support from the Swedish Consulate. Don’t forget your braids and boldest mismatched Pippi looks – costumes are encouraged for kids and grownups alike!

About Brownstone Brass

Come see BKCM community members Heather Ewer, Colin Babcock and Caitlin Featherstone, Ser Konvalin, and Oscar Thorpe perform as Brownstone Brass, an NYC-based brass quintet pushing the boundaries of what a traditional Brass Quintet looks and sounds like. Brownstone Brass will provide musical accompaniment for the Center for Fiction’s read-aloud of Pippi Longstocking, featuring sea shanties, familiar Swedish melodies, and danceable favorites. They will also be hosting a “Meet the Instruments” table for kids of all ages!
