BKCM Prospect Park West

BKCM’s expansion location is located on Grand Army Plaza, across from Prospect Park. It is home to 13 new music studios, a 1,450 sq. ft. Performance Hall, a large community gathering room, and the BKCM Music Therapy Institute.

PROGRAMS AT BKCM PROSPECT PARK WEST

In the fall of 2026, BKCM’s Park Slope Campus is expanding to a second location: a new, 12,000 ft2 space on Grand Army Plaza. Our expansion space will house 13 new studios, a state-of-the-art performance hall, and a spacious community room, providing much-needed space for music classes, private lessons, recitals, events, rehearsals, and the new BKCM Music Therapy Institute.

BKCM Prospect Park West will open its doors in September 2026, at the start of the 2026-27 school year. The first day of classes and lessons will be Monday, September 14th.

BKCM Prospect Park West is located on the lower level of One Prospect Park West, a residential building on Grand Army Plaza. BKCM will have its own dedicated entrance at 963 President Street, with both a staircase and an ADA-accessible ramp. If you are navigating to BKCM Prospect Park West on Google Maps, Citymapper, or on Uber/Lyft, the easiest address to use is 963 President Street.

BKCM Prospect Park West is located just four blocks from our longtime home at BKCM Seventh Ave. See the map below.

The closest subway stop is the Grand Army Plaza 2/3 station, which is ADA accessible. BKCM Prospect Park West is also easily accessible from the B41 stop (Flatbush Ave/Grand Army Plaza) and B67 Stop (7th Ave/Union St.), as well as the the 7th Avenue B/Q Station.

Our historic home is not going anywhere! BKCM Seventh Avenue will remain the heart of BKCM’s citywide programs and a hub for classes, lessons, ensembles, events and rehearsals. We are actively exploring possibilities for renovating – and expanding – 58 Seventh Avenue in the near future. Stay tuned for updates on this next phase.

  • All onsite Music Therapy sessions are moving exclusively to a new Institute at BKCM Prospect Park West, with an accessible entrance at 963 President Street.
  • Early Childhood Education classes for both Suzuki and the Community Music School will largely be held at BKCM Prospect Park West.
  • The BKCM Studio Collective will eventually offer rehearsal space rentals across both locations, but rentals at BKCM Prospect Park West will open later in the fall or early winter.

Each class and lesson will take place in one room and building for the duration of the semester, and you will be notified of the room number and building well ahead of time. In  rare cases, students taking more than one class or lesson at the same time (e.g., a private lesson and a group class) may end up going to different buildings for each. However, all Music Therapy sessions will take place at BKCM Prospect Park West, and all Suzuki Instrumental Program classes and lessons will take place at BKCM Seventh Avenue.

A more in-depth FAQ focused on the Music Therapy program’s move and the launch of the new Music Therapy Institute can be found here, and music therapists will be in touch with each client and family individually about the move over the summer! If you have questions, please reach out to our Onsite Music Therapy Clinical Coordinator, Marie Lewis, at marie.lewis@bkcm.org.

The quality of our programming and BKCM’s community-first ethos will stay consistent with the work we do at our BKCM Seventh Avenue site. While Seventh Avenue building that contains five floors of music, all programming at BKCM Prospect Park West will take place on a single floor, making it easier to maneuver between rooms. All studios and common spaces are being built with students and clients of all ages and abilities in mind, with top-of-the-line sound treatment, new equipment, and sensory-friendly design.

Yes, all performance and studio spaces at BKCM Prospect Park West will have built-in, state-of-the-art acoustic treatment to minimize sound bleed between different rooms, ensure that our spaces are sensory friendly, and protect our neighbors upstairs from unwanted noise (however beautiful it may be!).

Yes, we will have state-of-the-art equipment, instruments and resources at BKCM Prospect Park West. For example we are outfitting an early childhood room with many new instruments for young learners, as well as a music tech and piano lab that will support our group piano, composition, theory and technology classes. Our performance hall will also be equipped with a full backline, board, and a system for capturing video of performances.

The 1,450-square-foot Performance Hall at BKCM Prospect Park West will host a range of performances similar to what we program in the Concert Hall at BKCM Seventh Avenue, from student and music therapy recitals to cultural events and concerts. Recitals will take place in both locations, allowing more space for more students to perform frequently.
