Bowed Strings Lessons at BKCM
Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass
Private music lessons are a core learning experience at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, available for every major instrument including voice. Drawing from a diverse faculty of world-class musicians and educators, our Community Music School matches each student to a teacher whose approach and experience fit their learning style, genre interests and musical goals. No audition or experience is required to begin private music lessons.

How To Register
All private lesson registrations must be completed by phone or in-person. To schedule a trial lesson, re-enroll, or get help finding the right instructor, please call the registration desk at 718-622-3300.
Bowed Strings Faculty
Under the guidance of experienced teachers whose expertise ranges from classical to bluegrass to jazz, our teachers take a gentle approach to the fundamentals of string playing, such as bow technique, posture and body awareness so that students may achieve excellence in pitch and tone. In the early years, teachers and caregivers work together to assure that the proper technique is being practiced at home and that a suitable practice routine is established.

Playing in an Ensemble
BKCM offers two levels of string Youth Orchestra: the String Ensemble, for the beginner reader, and the String Orchestra, for the more advanced reader, open to all students by audition. Students perform a variety of repertoire including everything from classical to pop and improvisation. Students expand their sight-reading skills, while developing the ability to follow a conductor, and play together. Students are encouraged to practice ensemble repertoire with their private lesson teacher.
