Now registering BKCM Suzuki students for Fall 2026-27!
Open to BKCM Suzuki violin students who are late in Book 1, offered at both a beginner and intermediate level, our Irish Fiddle courses allow students to explore traditional Irish music while continuing to build foundations in violin. Students will learn authentic Irish tunes while developing ear training, bowing patterns, rhythm, and phrasing, and have the opportunity to collaborate with others and chances to perform both at BKCM and around the city.
Course Sections
IRISH FIDDLE I: Beginning Irish Fiddle
Sundays 3:15-4:00PM • Led by Ben Bregman
An introduction to fiddle playing in Irish traditional music, the class will cover the basics of the Irish style, including rhythm and phrasing, bowing patterns, and ability to learn melodies by ear. Through the year, students are invited for outings to Irish traditional music sessions around the city as well as participation in BKCM Ensemble Concerts.
Prerequisites: Technical skills through Minuets from Book 1. No experience with Irish music required.
Expectations: 5 minutes of daily practice at home.
IRISH FIDDLE II: Intermediate Irish Fiddle
Sundays 4:00-5:00PM • Led by Ben Bregman
Continuing our journeys in the Irish music tradition, the intermediate class will feature more complex tunes, faster tempos, and further discussion of ornamentation and bowing patterns. Through the year, students are invited for outings to Irish traditional music sessions around the city as well as participation in BKCM Ensemble Concerts.
Prerequisites: Completion of Irish Fiddle I. Technical skills through Two Grenadiers from Book 2.
Expectations: 5 minutes of daily practice at home.

A limited amount of financial aid is available for qualified students during the 2026-27 school year. Your family may qualify for financial aid. If you are interested in applying, please go to our Financial Aid page for more details on availability and eligibility criteria. Please note: submitting an application does not guarantee that financial aid will eventually be awarded.

Students enrolled in group classes and ensembles have up to 24 hours after their first class to be eligible for withdrawal and receive a refund for the remaining classes or request a transfer (subject to availability in other sections). Registration and payment plan fees are nonrefundable.
