About BKCM Raga Kids
Originally created by Trina Basu, Sameer Gupta and Neel Murgai, Raga Kids has been teaching and performing around New York City since 2012, both in private classes and in city schools. In BKCM Raga Kids, led by Neel Murgai, young children between the ages of 0 and 3 and their caregivers learn original songs that teach them about Indian classical music, the elements, and more. They sing along with Indian solfege and percussion syllables and listen deeply to the sonorous sounds and intricate rhythms of sitar and percussion, developing foundational musical skills that will serve them in all their future musical studies. The original songs used in Raga Kids draw from Indian and American classical and folk music traditions, and several were released on the album Element Suite in 2019.
Class Sections & Location
Fall 2026 classes take place on Tuesday mornings from 9/29 to 1/12, with three sections to choose from:
- 9:20-10:05 am
- 10:15-11:00 am
- 11:10-11:55 am

About Neel Murgai
Neel Murgai is a sitarist, overtone singer, percussionist, composer, teacher, and Co-Artistic Director of the Brooklyn Raga Massive, a raga-inspired musician’s collective. Neel’s music ranges from Indian classical to original compositions and contemporary cross-cultural collaborations with influences spanning the globe. Neel has worked with a diverse array of artists and ensembles, including Bill T. Jones, Adam Rudolph, Andre DeShields, Wyclef Jean, Cyndi Lauper, Karsh Kale, Samir Chatterjee, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Mary Zimmerman, Daniel Bernard Romain, Ellen Stewart, Laraaji, Yuerba Buena, Baba Israel, Raz Mesinai, Mission on Mars, Akim Funk Buddha, Loren Conners, Haunted House and Cosmo Vinyl. He has performed at venues ranging from the Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center to the David Letterman Show to jazz clubs such as the Blue Note and at festivals around the U.S including Art Wallah, Arts Plosure, Masala! Mehndi! Masti! and many others.
