Class Descriptions:

This interactive, movement based workshop offers students a daily routine that levels up their musicianship skills with ear training, solfege, listening and advanced rhythmic concepts through body percussion, drumming and singing. Students warm up their minds and bodies to prepare for a day of music making.

Students connect with others at their level for a group lesson experience, working on concepts, skills and reading challenges that will advance their playing. Older and more experienced students gather in a masterclass format. Students perform for each other and learn to give feedback and suggestions for improvement with the guidance of the expert faculty. Voice students work together in masterclasses and semi-private lessons as well as a basic introduction to piano and guitar for those who are new to playing an instrument.

Students work in small groups including duos, trios and quartets in a variety of combinations and build a repertoire together. With each student on a different part, they are responsible for their own part, rhythmic accuracy and developing a group ensemble sound.

For the aspiring composer or songwriter, each student creates an original composition that will be performed by a student or faculty ensemble. Students learn to combine melody, rhythm, form, motives and mood to create original pieces.

A deep dive into the study of beats, rhythms and grooves from different cultures from around the world such as Africa, Brazil, the Middle East and beyond.

Students join together in song, singing in unison while developing their harmonizing skills through pop selections. Students who love to sing or are interested in finding their voice, will love this dynamic ensemble.

Students and faculty perform for each other in this open format session at the end of each day. Students come home inspired from a fun day of music making and listening to great performances.
