Learn the ins and outs of music production!
Working out of BKCM’s new, state-of-the-art Music Production Lab, students will learn to make music digitally with a variety of music production software and digital music interfaces. With so much music created “in the box” these days, this class will provide students with valuable technical skills through creative projects in beatmaking, recording, and looping as well as composing for media such as YouTube, videos, and video games. Students will produce their music at individual workstations, with an emphasis on creativity and collaboration with peers.

Location
The Music Production Lab will take place in our new expansion location’s production space at BKCM Prospect Park West, with an entrance at 963 President Street.
Music Production Faculty
Chris Petro a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer based in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from the prestigious jazz program at the University of North Texas in 2016 and has been a full time musician since, keeping a busy and varied schedule of performances, teaching opportunities, and studio work. As an educator, Chris believes in creatively utilizing each student’s unique interests as the lens to explore and communicate musical concepts — balancing learning and having fun in a highly personalized way.
Ian Davis is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator who holds a bachelor’s in music theory and composition from NYU and a master’s in Music Composition from Wesleyan University. Ian performs as a member of several NYC-based projects and has worked as an orchestral arranger for artists such as Daniel Rossen (of Grizzly Bear), Feist, and Cassandra Jenkins, among many others. As a teacher, his goals are to be responsive to the interests of students and to provide clear, consistent structure that helps students come away with tangible skills while allowing space for exploration, experimentation and play.
Composer and pianist Eliot Krimsky has scored films featured on HBO, Netflix, and The New York Times and collaborated with artists such as Meshell Ndegeocello, Sharon Van Etten, Deerhoof, and Robert Stillman. He studied jazz piano and composition at the New England Conservatory of Music under the mentorship of Danilo Pérez, and co-founded the NYC art-pop band Glass Ghost. As an educator, Krimsky has taught music for over 20 years, at institutions including the Edward R. Murrow High School Music Institute, Pioneer Works, and Music Mentor Collaborative, which brings music education to underserved communities nationwide.
