Description
Students learn the fundamentals of Western Classical music theory, such as form, harmony, melody and rhythm. Through guided listening and take-home resources, the class aims to give students a deeper understanding of how music theory works and is an excellent resource for parents and caregivers who are supporting students studying music. Students engage in small composition activities that provide a motivating, interactive approach to applied music theory and will bring a fresh perspective to the music you listen to everyday.
Which section should I join?
Music Theory for Adults is offered in two sections: one for those who have little prior training in music and one for students who have prior experience with music theory or instrumental skills. If you have never taken a music theory class before, we recommend the Intro to Music Theory section. To determine which level Music Theory class you should join, please fill out the Music Theory Placement Survey. Once we receive your results, we will email with our suggestion for which class to sign up for.
