Description
Students begin their journey with the violin in a cheerful group setting which integrates elements of improvisation and composition as well as essential musicianship skills such as sight reading, ear training and singing. Students learn how to hold the violin, pluck individual strings and how to use the bow with the right hand. Students also learn to identify strings, read basic rhythmic notation and begin to identify notes on the staff.
Caregivers are encouraged to attend in part each week and are provided with the resources and tools to help their child practice at home. At the end of each term, students perform in a group recital, building confidence and performance skills.
*Students are required to rent or purchase a violin for this class. Click here to see recommendations on purchasing or renting a violin. We recommend a 1/4 size violin for this age group. Students are also encouraged to purchase this book. For suggestions on where to rent a violin, see our Instrument Guide.
