BKCM Community Music Center

BKCM’s First Community Music Center

The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music is thrilled to announce the opening of the BKCM Community Music Center located in the Cypress Hills/East NY Community Center at Chestnut Commons.

In partnership with Chestnut Commons and the Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation, this location is the inaugural site of our Community Music Center Initiative which offers top-quality music education programming at locations convenient and accessible to families across New York City. Chestnut Commons is a new mixed-use building serving residents of Cypress Hills and East New York.

Launched in November 2022, the BKCM Community Music Center offers private instrument lessons, a Saturday band program and a summer band camp to students ages 9 to 14, at little to no cost.

The BKCM Community Music Center is located at Chestnut Commons (276 Chestnut Street) within the Cypress Hills/East NY Community Center, a state-of-the-art center developed and operated by Cypress Hills LDC.

The BKCM Community Music Center was made possible by generous support from The Altman Foundation, The Edwin Caplin Foundation, The Hearst Foundations and The Pinkerton Foundation.

Fall 2022 Open House at Chestnut Commons

To meet our new neighbors and introduce ourselves to the Chestnut Commons community, BKCM will host an Open House for three consecutive Saturdays: October 22, October 29 and November 5. Free drop-in classes will be offered in Music & Movement (for children ages 5 to 7) and Hand Drumming (ages 8 to 11).

Class Schedule: 10-10:45am | 11-11:45am | 12:30-1:15pm

Each class will be limited to 15 students. Classes are first come, first served. Students are invited to attend for one week, two weeks or all three!

BKCM’s goal is to expand our Community Music Center Initiative, allowing students in neighborhoods across the city to access the full range of music programs available at our Park Slope campus for free or at deeply affordable rates. We envision that the music education students receive at BKCM Community Music Centers will allow them to access high-level musical opportunities in high school and beyond.
