A Brighter Canon: An Evening of Conversation and Performance Celebrating Underrepresented Classical Composers

Description

Saturday, April 18 • 6:30 PM • BKCM Concert Hall

Pay-As-You-Wish ($10 Suggested)

Join us for an exciting evening of live music and conversation at BKCM’s inaugural “Brighter Canon”. This concert will include performances by Suzuki students as well as a conversation with Arthur Villar, Suzuki faculty member and co-creator of the No Repeats Project. This program explores an expanded view of the Western Classical canon, presenting works by composers historically excluded from mainstream programming — including women, queer, Asian, BIPOC, and living composers.

The evening will be hosted by Uton Onyejekwe, BKCM’s Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion!

Sliding-Scale Tickets

To keep musical experiences accessible, we have a sliding scale ticket model available for this event. Our suggested ticket price for the program is $10 per person, and all proceeds support BKCM and the Suzuki program.
