Jonathon Crompton – Album Launch – “Cantata No. 1: An Island Seen and Felt”

Description

Saturday, May 24 • Doors 7pm, Performance 7:30pm • BKCM Concert Hall

Join Australian saxophonist and composer Jonathon Crompton to celebrate the release of his sophomore album Cantata No. 1: An Island Seen and Felt in BKCM’s historic brownstone at 58 Seventh Ave in Brooklyn. The evening’s performance will be opened by a solo saxophone set by Kevin Sun, followed by a brief intermission and performance of Cantata No. 1.

Recorded with an ensemble of leading artists from New York’s classical, early music, and jazz scenes, Cantata No. 1 is a heartfelt reflection of Crompton’s boyhood in the Australian Surf Coast and a celebration of the Surf Coast’s exquisite beaches. Crompton’s music reconciles past and present, helping him find peace as an expat yearning for home. Navigating an uncharted musical space between genres, Crompton’s work blends lyrical jazz improvisation, contemporary classical composition, and Renaissance counterpoint, to create uniquely beautiful, spiritual, and innovative chamber music. The work is scored for alto saxophone and electric guitar, two Early Music sopranos, and string quartet.
