BKCM’s community jam series continues with something new: our first-ever Old Time Square Dance, led by caller Megan Downes. Open to all ages and levels of experience with square dancing, this community hang is the perfect place to show off your moves or learn your first steps.

About Megan Downes

Megan Downes, dance caller of Southern Appalachian-based mountain squares, is Artistic Director of City Stompers, the percussive dance ensemble and stringband collective known for traditional American oldtime tunes and original clogging danced in Fiddle Puppet style. Come dance squares with Megan at Porchstomp on June 20th,  Greyfox Bluegrass Festival Family Stage July 17-18 and Ashokan’s Summer Hoot August 29th! 

Raised in NYC’s traditional Irish dance and music community, originally trained by Donny Golden, Megan also brings a lifetime of Irish sean nós improvisation and old-style steps to the performance stage. Her teaching and calling of ceili, set, waltz and two-hands includes 14 years of Irish Night at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing. She’s available to teach clogging, flatfooting, sets and sean nós in private or group lessons.
