Music Therapy Presents: Playing into Presence with Dan Saks, MT-BC

Description

Friday, October 23 • 7-8:30 PM • BKCM Prospect Park West (963 President St.)

This is the first in a series of events hosted at the new Music Therapy Institute at BKCM Prospect Park West! Next up is a Sound Bath on November 20th.

Led by BKCM Music Therapist Dan Saks, MT-BC, Playing into Presence is a 90-minute gathering where spontaneous music creation becomes a catalyst for self-reflection, stress relief, and community. The session begins with a brief overview of the pitched and unpitched percussion that participants will use, followed by guidance on how to use the experience as a tool for exploring mindfulness.

Participants then transition into improvisational music-making. Using spontaneous interplay, you’ll practice anchored attention, shifting your focus away from racing thoughts and entirely into the sensory reality of the present moment. The practice isn’t about playing “correct” notes; it’s about noticing your body and your mind, staying present with the dynamic shifts around you, and using sound as a mirror for self-discovery. You leave with a grounded mind, a restored nervous system, and a warm sense of camaraderie forged through collective expression.

Open to all musical backgrounds—no musical training required.
