Embark on a Piano Journey This Summer!

Open To: Beginners with no experience on the piano, students who have familiarity with the piano but no formal training and intermediate students who have been taking piano lessons for 1-2 years.

Head to the keys this summer with our popular Piano Explorers Camp—a fun, interactive camp that focuses on learning piano, developing musicianship and making friends.

For our beginners, the Piano Explorers introductory curriculum is a fun approach to learning the piano that engages ear-training, games and improvisation designed to improve students’ orientation to the piano keyboard, hand-eye coordination and listening skills. Older students who are already taking private lessons or have some experience on the piano previously, work together in a semi-private lesson format to perform beginner piano pieces and arrangements of popular songs.

Playing in a group with others at their level, helps students advance quickly and discover the joy of learning music in a group setting. Our faculty provide an assessment of your student’s level and skill at the beginning of camp to place them in the appropriate group. In addition to daily piano and musicianship classes, each day is packed with fun activities such as world drumming, song-writing, art making and fun outdoor activities. See below for all the details.

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT

For younger students who are beginners in music and on an instrument, this class draws on music from around the world and is designed to help students develop ear training, rhythmic awareness, pitch recognition, musical patterns and listening skills through movement, singing and drumming.

MUSICIANSHIP

For older students with prior experience on the piano and music, this interactive, movement based class offers students a daily routine that levels up their musicianship skills with ear training, solfege, listening and advanced rhythmic concepts. Students warm up their minds and bodies to prepare for a day of music making.

GROUP PIANO CLASS + SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS

Younger beginners are introduced to our piano friends curriculum which begins students’ journey to reading notation and rhythm using Do-Re-Mi and the three black keys of the piano. Older beginner students begin with Do-Re-Mi and are also oriented toward five finger positions. Students who have had piano lesson experience work together in a semi-private lesson format, learning new music and songs. All students play and perform together in a dynamic and joyous group atmosphere.

OUTSIDE PLAY

Each day after lunch, students make their way outdoors for an organized activity in our beautiful garden, free time in the playground or a guided walk around the neighborhood. Each outdoor play session is a mix of free play, guided games and activities.

PIANO ENSEMBLES / SONG WRITING / MUSIC AND ART / WORLD DRUMMING

Our afternoons are a bit of a choose your own adventure, depending on students’ interest, age and level. Younger students participate in interactive drumming, art making and listening experiences. Students who are hungry for more music making, write and sing their own silly songs in a creative song writing workshop. Students who want a little more time on the piano participate in piano ensembles and additional semi-private lessons.
