Why the Community Music School?

Personalized Weekly Lessons
Learning to play an instrument or sing is a deeply personal process. At BKCM, our faculty members start from your musical goals and interests, creating an individualized curriculum and practice routine that’s tailored to you or your family member.

World-Class Faculty
Our faculty is made up of some of the best musicians in New York, from Next Jazz Legacy award-winners to touring artists who’ve backed up Grammy winners and major Broadway musicals. Whatever genre you want to learn, we’ve got experts on hand.

Performance Opportunities
At CMS, recitals and our annual Performathon are an integral part of the private lesson experience. All CMS Students are invited to participate and gain valuable, confidence-building performance experience in a welcoming, low-pressure environment.

Growth Reports
Each week, your private lesson teacher will set short- and long-term goals and practice suggestions to match your age, level and experience. Near the end of each year or term, your teacher assess your growth in four different areas – musical skills, repertoire, growth and practice, and participation – to help you meet your musical goals.
Private lesson students also receive a 50% tuition discount on CMS group classes and ensembles. Explore our options below.
